The end of the world as we know it? Are Casual games destroying the Video-Game Industry?

Nintendo saved the video game industry in 1985, after The Great Crash of 1982-1984, by developing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Nintendo used to be on top, but for two generations has been on the lower end of the food system. So Nintendo created a new strategy, bring casual players in. After all it was a market that hadn’t really been tapped. Nintendo first released the Nintendo DS (dual screen) to critics and gamers praise. Nintendo has the best selling console of this generation (so far), but is lacking on two big aspects:
1- Nintendo forgot hardcore gamers
2- There aren’t really any good “games” for the Nintendo Wii

10 Tips to Recession Dieting

Lets face it, life is getting harder while the economy is going to hell. We’ve all had to make cuts, wanting them or not, in order to be able to spend a little less, save a little more and pray to be able to have our basics needs met for the next day. Now reports are saying that the recession is going to make bellies grow. Basically because fatty, sugary food is cheaper than healthy food like fruits, vegetables and meats.

So what’s someone on a budget to do, without having to waste money on diet plans, when the nearest option is pricey? Well here I offer 10 tips to save money and lose weigh.

Resident Evil 5

Yesterday January 26, 2009 Capcom released a demo of it’s upcoming game Resident Evil 5.The game is a sequel to 2005’s masterpiece Resident Evil 4, only in this case Chris Redfield is the leading hero along with new comer to the series Sheva. Yesterday’s demo proved that Capcom will deliver an incredible experience come March. The games’ graphic are amazing even in broad day light (which departs from the night levels in previous Resident Evil entries), the in-game graphics look very close to the in-game cinematics, which will leave you at some points thinking that you’re watching a cinematic, instead of actual gameplay.

Leave Hungry, but happy?

The Top Chef Judges claim, that diners will go to a restaurant even if they serve bad food, as long as they get some nice service. This was news for me, why would someone go to a restaurant to eat raw food, but to be treated nicely and have good dessert? Isn’t easier to go to a Café, bakery or pastry shop? You go to a restaurant to try things, you otherwise can’t make (or make as good), to have things you can’t even come close to create, and to experience new foods and flavors. If you want to be treated nicely (especially in New York) don’t leave home.

Economic Crisis? Analysts are to Blame

Analysts predict that companies are going to “grow” a certain percent, or make “x” amount of money. If analysts make good predictions you can notice how the company stock will rise, but after they have to report earnings, it’s do or die. If a company fails to meet expectations, even if it is by a small almost insignificant margin, the company stock will fall. What’s a CEO to do? They have to make sure they have good stock, so that way investors can be happy, and will continue to own/buy stock. What’s the easiest way to make quick cash? Hundreds, and thousands of lay-offs. Today Home Depot announced it was laying off 7,000 employees. In 2009 alone (it’s been barely 26 days into the year) 200,000 jobs have been lost, and analysts predicted more doom and gloom. Who will analysts screw next?

Light Culture

Every day millions of people live in a light culture. They consume only diet sodas, fat-free yogurts and a small salad. These days you can find dozens of variations of one product. There’s light ice cream, sugar-free ice cream, soy ice cream, rice-milk ice cream, low carb ice cream, and so on. There are thousands of products that are “free” of something, or very light. Dietary restrictions aside, none of these products tastes nor it feels like its counter part, which leads me to compare our eating habits with our living habits.

Freedom of Speech on the Subway

when you are on the subway, or any other sort of public transportation, you are trapped in there. If someone starts singing, preaching, reciting or protesting (all perfectly legal acts) you can’t chose not to hear them.

On the book, “The Law of Public Communication” by Kent R. Middleton and William E. Lee (2007), they discuss how The First Amendment doesn’t protect begging on the subway.
